What is a Peacemaker?

A Peacemaker is a student who repeatedly makes the right choices. We understand students, through their growth and maturity, sometimes make the wrong decisions. Students who successfully live the Peacemaker principles attend our monthly Peacemaker Activity, while those who have not, attend a Second Step refresher lesson reminding them of their conflict management resolution skills and help them practice the concepts of empathy, emotions management, impulse control, and problem solving.

What is the Peacemaker Pledge?

What are the school hours?

School Hours are Monday – Friday 7:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

What are the procedures for arrival and dismissal?

ARRIVAL
Students arrive between 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. in the cafeteria for breakfast. Students arriving after 7:45 a.m. are dropped off at the front door of the school.

DISMISSAL

School is dismissed at 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday for Kindergarten through fifth grade students not participating in Extended Day. Families with students in kindergarten through fourth grade pick up their children in the front of the school. Drivers must pull into the parking slots; students will not be allowed to cross the street to get into their families’ car. Grades five through eight are picked up behind the school unless they have a younger sibling then they exit at the front of school with their sibling(s). Families enter on the west end of the school and exit behind the cafeteria through the ally.

What is the Extended Day Program?

The Extended Day Program is for students in kindergarten through grade five. This program provides homework assistance, tutoring, enrichment, healthy snack and physical activity. Grades six through eight attend Access Academy.

What is the cost of school breakfast and lunch?

The cost of school breakfast and lunch for the 2025-2026 is free due to the federal lunch program. (Subject to change each school year)

What lunch options are available to my student?

Options include: two hot entrees, salad, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Milk, vegetables, and fruit are optional daily.

What is the best way to stay connected and updated with the day to day at Sister Thea Bowman?

While each classroom teacher may have a different method of communicating with you, there are also many ways for you to stay connected with the school.

What is the policy for absenteeism and tardiness?

Students are expected to be at school in their classroom by 7:45 a.m. A student is considered to be tardy if they arrive after 8:00 a.m. Families are required to contact the school office if a child will be absent or late.
