Who We Are
Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School, a ministry of the Diocese of Belleville, is committed to deepening faith in Jesus Christ and to providing a holistic learning approach to faith development and education within a Catholic framework. Our mission is to inspire, prepare, and empower kindergarten through grade 8 students in East St. Louis and surrounding communities to become the next generation of wholesome, responsible, and dedicated leaders in their communities and the world. At Sister Thea, we believe that all children should be afforded this opportunity regardless of their economic status.
What It Costs
The current cost to educate a child is over $8,000 a year. The average per child tuition that we ask families to pay is approximately $4,000 a year. For many families, even the requested amount is beyond their financial reach. While fundraising efforts such as our benefit dinner and annual fund appeal help to subsidize the difference, filling the gap between the cost to educate a child and what families can afford to pay is a recurring challenge. A dilemma faced by many Catholic schools, this situation is keenly felt in our community where many families live at or below the poverty level.

This is where you can make a difference. The need for tuition assistance is the school’s number one priority. In order to better meet our financial needs and to recognize our most generous donors, we established the Heart of Thea Foundation. Designed to keep the focus on the need for student scholarships, the Heart of Thea Foundation / Each One Teach One tuition assistance strategy is to broaden the school’s outreach to people of good will from all faith communities. Your participation can positively affect our ability to offer a quality education to children in the East St. Louis and surrounding communities.
