Students and Staff at Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School continued their long tradition of making colorful Pinwheels for Peace each year for International Peace Day, which is celebrated September 21st. each year, the students learn about the movement to bring Peace to the world, and as a sign of support, they join thousands of school age children across the globe by putting their Pinwheels for Peace outside.

The project website, PinwheelsForPeace.com, asks us to “Imagine…  millions of pinwheels spinning in the wind – pinwheels in the United States, Great Britain, South America, Australia, the Middle East, Canada,  Africa, Europe and Asia… pinwheels with words of peace and harmony written on them…EVERYWHERE!”

Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School is located in East St Louis, IL, and all of the students begin each day with a Peacemaker Pledge to be “peacemakers in actions and words”, so the Pinwheels for Peace Project fits in perfectly with the spirit they try to carry. Today, between rain showers, they prayed for peace and then enjoyed the spinning of the pinwheels as the wind carried peace throughout the school, community, and the world.
